million's good

back in hyd after a trip to kochi - the pearl/queen (a bit confused on that front and not in the mood to google) of the arabian sea. and it was a pretty eventful trip too. saw a couple of good movies. "udayanaanu thaaram" and "million dollar baby" - the former is probably the only malayalam movie in the past 5 years which has been able to make people laugh without resorting to cheap bathroom humour and the latter is, for want of a better word, a classic. i remember daku saying something about it having a potential for becoming a classic but i guess with all those oscars, it already is. i feel sorry for martin scorsese and was pretty surprised but then eastwood had done a pretty good job, way out of the league of his last one i remember - space cowboys. the chap's like wine :-). i guess there isn't any point in talking of the movie though, as half the world ought to have seen it by now.

and home surprisingly was a lot more hot and humid than ever before. so i request all and sundry to refrain from using cfc! and the trip back was pretty good. the indian railways, it seems, is striving hard to cater to the needs of people for beautiful-eyed girls in long-distance trains - first my friend and now me ;-)

  • hey million's amazing - still thinking about it. now, as far as trains, /me waiting for some supreme poetry on the subject. just reading Tagore, so competition is tough (-;

    @sachin: saw No Man's Land. good movie. but very very depressing i thought. there's lots of good stuff that came out of Balkans... see if you can find Before the Rain. also anything by Kusturica: Undergroud, Time of Gypsies, and Black Cat, White Cat

  • thou art warned sachin. soon the lady will have u eating Goulash a la Kalich (i have no idea what that is. just the result of a quick google)!

    also i have this bitter experience of the balkans. had been to one of those film festivals in kochi and they were showing this movie (dont remember the language, but then i dont think there was any dialogue) which is abt a kid who was locked in a dumpster or something by somebody and its got a hole and the movie is abt the kid staring out of it. after the first hour of this i was begging for sweet release and wishing that somebody would plug the hole and let the bugger suffocate.

  • Oh the General reaction after No-Man's Land was "Shucks.Poor Guy." -directed at this helpless chap whom everybody leaves lying on a mine.Reminds me might as well write on this now.was wondering what to write.
    @ daniela :thanks for the list, r u for real ? u sat thru so many BALKAN movies without balking ? hats off. Must be good.I share Neurohavoc's sentiments when it comes to arty movies but ;-)

  • Million's a winner and eastwood is a wine, no doubt.

  • and sachin commits the worst of deadly sins. poking fun at the balkans. /me dives for cover. dark clouds start moving in the sky. the sharp metallic click can be heard as daku loads a fresh magazine into her uzi even as sachin walks away unaware of the shower of bullets that would fling him onto the cracked graveyard walls and smatter his interstitial fluid in abstract patterns all over the place. and i am not speaking balkan movies here :-)

  • eda, if i feel particularly evil, i will have u both eat tripe soup with some stinking molded cheese on the side. perhaps also some marinated sausages instead of pickles. that all for what it seems as confusion of my homeland for a balkans country. in any case, balkans rock! and daku can be vinDiKtive.

  • /me munching morosely on thick slice of humble pie.

  • hey at least u don't DIRECTLY pick fights with me as with our beloved angel of peace!

    by Blogger Daniela Kantorova, at 10:51 pm

  • i never picked a fight with the alleged angel of peace. /me retching at the mere thought of the that - not the fight but calling him that. and what is an angel of peace doing engaging in active combat. and i resent the daku gloating over petty victories. oh lord, gimme the strength to change what I can, the inability to
    accept what I can't and the incapacity to tell the difference ;-)

  • you go, goldi, change the world with this prayer (-;
    DaKu reserves the right to bask in the splendor of her victories, however petty. The light from daku's petty victory outshines the luster of GOLDilocks. hehe
